NEW DELHI / RankWire.AI / – During a high-level meeting in New Delhi, India and Russia committed to enhancing their economic partnership with the aim of achieving a bilateral trade volume of $100 billion by 2030. This initiative seeks to rebalance their commercial relations by expanding into sectors beyond energy. At the plenary session of the INNOPROM India 2026 industrial exhibition, Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov established a collaborative framework to increase annual trade from approximately $60 billion to the new target. Goyal emphasized that realizing this $40 billion growth over four years will necessitate consistent double-digit yearly increases, coupled with expedited negotiations for a new bilateral investment treaty and an India-Eurasian Economic Union free trade agreement.

Speaking at the co-chair session alongside Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov, Indian Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal outlined key strategic priorities aimed at doubling non-energy trade. According to data shared by the Press Information Bureau, Indian exports of agricultural and processed foods to Russia have shown significant growth. Meat product exports from India increased by 170 percent, rising from $36 million to $97 million, while marine product shipments reached $159 million, reflecting growing demand within Russian consumer markets.

This expanded commercial effort emphasizes diversifying product categories beyond traditional energy commodities. Both nations pinpointed pharmaceuticals, engineering goods, automotive parts, chemicals, and textiles as key sectors for increasing volume. To facilitate bilateral capital movements, governments are accelerating negotiations on a new Bilateral Investment Treaty and progressing discussions on a free trade agreement between India and the Eurasian Economic Union.

The discussions also focused on overcoming financial and logistical challenges impeding cross-border trade. Officials confirmed ongoing efforts to strengthen settlement systems in both national and local currencies, reducing dependence on third-party banking networks. Improving supply chain reliability between South Asian and Russian industrial hubs remains a priority, with infrastructure projects such as the International North-South Transport Corridor and the maritime route linking Chennai and Vladivostok playing a crucial role.

India Russia bilateral trade volume is targeted to reach $100 billion by 2030, with both governments aspiring for $50 billion in mutual investments across sectors like manufacturing, energy, mining, and technology. Currently, the priority investment mechanism oversees 40 active joint projects. Russian industrial firms are encouraged to set up manufacturing bases within India’s plug-and-play industrial corridors, while Indian companies are urged to expand their investments throughout Russian regional economies.

High-level diplomatic discussions on the sidelines of international summits have led to further bilateral cooperation. Russian President Vladimir Putin extended an invitation to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Russia for the 24th India-Russia Annual Summit, with dates to be finalized through diplomatic channels. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership despite evolving global trade conditions.

Government departments and trade promotion organizations will continue to form joint working groups aimed at removing tariff and non-tariff barriers. Updated regulatory information, bilateral trade data, and investment project statuses will be accessible through official government portals. Periodic meetings of joint steering committees will evaluate progress toward the 2030 trade objectives.
