    Euro area industrial output flat as EU gains 0.2%

    BRUSSELS, BELGIUM / RankWire.AI / – Industrial production in the euro area held steady in June 2026 from the previous month, while output across the European Union increased 0.2%. Eurostat said both regions had recorded 0.3% monthly growth in May. Compared with June 2025, production rose 0.1% in the euro area and 0.6% across the EU. The June figures showed gains in energy and some consumer goods, while capital and intermediate goods weakened.

    Non-durable consumer goods posted the strongest monthly increase in the euro area, rising 3.0% in June. Energy output climbed 1.5%, and durable consumer goods production increased 0.3%. Capital goods fell 1.4%, while intermediate goods declined 0.8%. The euro-area industrial production index remained at 98.7, using 2021 as the base year of 100. May had brought stronger gains in non-durable consumer goods and energy production.

    The EU recorded a 2.5% monthly rise in non-durable consumer goods and a 1.0% increase in energy output. Durable consumer goods gained 0.9%, while capital goods fell 0.9% and intermediate goods dropped 0.7%. The EU production index increased to 101.0 in June from 100.8 in May. It stood at 99.2 in January and then increased each month through June, according to the latest official data.

    National production trends diverge across EU

    Denmark posted the largest monthly increase among member states with available data, as industrial production advanced 5.4%. Croatia followed with a 5.2% rise, while Lithuania and Finland each gained 2.1%. Luxembourg recorded the largest decline at 10.7%, followed by Portugal at 3.9% and Estonia at 2.2%. Among the largest economies, Germany rose 0.2%, France was unchanged, Italy fell 1.0%, and Spain declined 0.7%.

    Annual comparisons also showed uneven results across industrial categories. Euro-area intermediate goods increased 0.4% from June 2025, while energy rose 0.9% and capital goods edged up 0.1%. Durable consumer goods fell 2.5%, and non-durable consumer goods decreased 0.5%. Across the EU, industrial production increased 0.6% from a year earlier. Intermediate goods rose 1.0%, energy gained 0.3%, and capital goods increased 0.9%.

    Lithuania tops annual gains as revisions lift May data

    Lithuania recorded the strongest annual increase among reporting member states, with industrial production rising 7.7% from June 2025. Denmark followed with 6.1%, while Poland advanced 4.9%. Finland rose 4.6%, Hungary gained 4.1%, and Czechia increased 4.0%. Luxembourg posted the sharpest annual decline at 7.9%, while Romania fell 5.6% and Estonia dropped 4.6%. Germany and France each declined 0.5%, while Italy fell 0.6% and Spain rose 1.0%.

    Eurostat also raised its estimates for May after revising figures released in July. The euro-area monthly result changed to a 0.3% increase from an earlier 0.2% decline. The EU figure moved to a 0.3% gain from a previously reported 0.1% fall. Annual May production was revised to a 0.1% decline in the euro area and a 0.6% increase across the EU. The regional calculations use seasonally adjusted national industrial production data.
